We recently tested the mini app, Clause Craft, developed through Streamlit by Gustavo Matos, Head of Legal, Regulatory and Compliance at Belvo (data and payments platform).
The application’s function is to transform contractual clauses into a simple language.
Our first test consisted of something simple, selecting a clause of an image use term – those contracts that are found on the internet with 47 words -, with the aim of understanding whether the text was in fact simple and conveyed the desired message. to the recipient of the message, in this case, the person who would sign the term of use of the image.
The result was a success, the noise of the previous clause was removed (from 47 words to 23) and only what was necessary was kept in the wording, thus transmitting the expected message.
These initiatives – whether through applications or Legal Design, for example – that encourage better communication between legal professionals and those who will come into contact with clauses are important for the development of the legal world and contractual relations.
This application reinforces the importance of communicating well, in a simple way and that the recipient of the message can understand it more quickly and accurately.
